Extending the Copernicus Local Land Component

We are delighted to announce that the first delivery unit of the Copernicus Natura 2000 Local Land Component containing around 22.000 km2 has been delivered to the European Environment Agency (EEA).

GeoVille as part of a consortium with EFTAS and GAF was commissioned by EEA to map additional grassland-rich Natura 2000 sites along with 2 km buffer areas across Europe. This extends the coverage of the existing Copernicus Natura 2000 Local Land Component service. It is based on a visual interpretation of land cover and land use from very-high-resolution satellite imagery of the reference years 2006 and 2012.
