Earth observation and economics

GeoVille discussed the potential of Earth observation for economic analysis during a meeting with representatives from Deutsche Bank Research and Deutsche Asset Management in Frankfurt last week.

The recent investments in satellite capabilities, open and free access to data and tools, and advances in algorithms and data processing have started to enable the widespread use of this information at scale, and beyond the specialised scientific community.  These developments offer opportunities for improving the range and robustness of data and indicators. Especially in combination with other geo-referenced socio-demographic, economic and public administration data, it enables ground-breaking new satellite-based economic information services that provide timely and reliable information about economic activities across the globe.
