Supported by the European Space Agency (ESA), RAMONA is an Earth Observation-based system designed to monitor rangelands across Africa on a continental scale . This innovative service will support livelihood decisions and enhance human well-being by providing crucial data for managing land resources. Furthermore, RAMONA quantifies land degradation and biodiversity loss, offering vital insights for sustainable development.
At GeoVille, we are excited to share our integral role in this pioneering initiative. Our team has developed an advanced data fusion method fusing Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data. As leader in crafting the project’s robust backend services, we ensure seamless functionality that powers these transformative tools.
The innovative user interface, was developed by DHI, also the developers of the Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3 fusion product. This interface displays extended pilot areas across 130 Sentinel-2 tiles (for now), featuring key products like:
- Aarhus University’s Rangeland Extent and Rangeland Type products.
- Lund University’s pioneering Herbaceous Biomass product and TIMESAT derived phenological parameters.
We invited our Key Users, Scientific Steering Committee members and stakeholders to engage with these tools, providing feedback that will help us refine and perfect our systems to better serve African communities and ecosystems. After receiving this valuable feedback, we will refine and scale our solutions to cover the entire continent.
