ESA SMART-CONNECT Milestone Achieved

With the Mid-Term Milestone reached, ESA’s Smart Connect initiative is paving the way for a more connected, resilient, and secure Europe.

Due date the developed ConneXstream middleware user interface enables civil security actors already with innovative capacities to receive continuous Earth-observation feeds covering Africa, the EU, and Ukraine, satellite base alerts for forest fires, floods, and droughts, transmit livestream of drone video over satellite communication links, as well as to task commercial satellites for emergency monitoring.

Next, ConneXstream will be enriched with functions to:

1. expand coverage and redundancy of EO streams
2. enhance AI-driven alerting and automated response workflows
3. onboard additional industry partners and end-users
4. refine procurement mechanisms to accelerate adoption

From ensuring communication when terrestrial networks fail to enabling seamless data exchange and situational awareness - Smart Connect is redefining how Europe leverages space-based tools. Stay tuned !
