The CLCplus Backbone 2025 production is officially underway! This key component of the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) provides a pan-European, high-resolution raster dataset describing land cover at 10-metre resolution, creating a consistent and harmonised foundation for land monitoring across Europe.
Unlike traditional land cover products, CLCplus Backbone combines satellite observations with multiple reference datasets to produce a detailed, spatially consistent “backbone” layer that supports a wide range of downstream products and analyses within the CLMS portfolio.
During the kick-off meeting, partners from GeoVille, GAF AG, Telespazio Ibérica, and E-GEOS aligned on the upcoming production cycle, technical workflows, and collaboration steps to ensure the continued delivery of reliable and consistent geospatial information.
Covering the EU27 and EEA38+UK, CLCplus Backbone strengthens Europe’s capacity to monitor land dynamics and supports evidence-based environmental policy and planning.
GeoVille is proud to contribute to this effort by supporting the development and operational implementation of the Backbone production system.
We are looking forward to another successful production cycle and continued collaboration across the consortium.
