EEA report “Green infrastructure and territorial cohesion”

Green infrastructure is a concept addressing the connectivity of ecosystems, their protection and the provision of ecosystem services. The concept is central to the overall objective of ecosystem restoration, which is now part of the 2020 biodiversity target. It promotes integrated spatial planning by identifying multifunctional zones, connectivity and smart conservation into various land use plans and policies, such as linking peri-urban and urban areas or in territorial development policy.

GeoVille has contributed to chapter 4 of the report on “monitoring systems for green infrastructure and territorial cohesion” with an analysis of green infrastructure mapping / monitoring tools at urban and landscape level. The concept of the “regional environmental characterisation” has been developed under the lead of GeoVille.
