Spatial monitoring of surface movements and oil production facilities
GeoVille has implemented a monitoring system allowing analyses of vertical surface movements caused by oil production in the western part of Kuwait and Ghawar oilfield / Saudi-Arabia. SAR data from Envisat have been used to determine surface displacements in the sub-centimeter range.
Extents and amplitudes of subsidence signals are correlating with those of oil-bearing geological structures and movements caused by oil extraction. Optical data from SPOT and Quickbird are applied to determine oil rig activity over time.
